Coleus
Pedicel attached asymmetrically to the calyx; upper corolla lip usually much shorter than the lower lip.
LAMIACEAE
Mints from Africa and Arabia, with a focus on succulent Coleus species.
Die hier verwendete Gattungszuordnung berücksichtigt die Revision von Paton und Mitarbeitern (2019).Herbs and subshrubs with opposite leaves form the focus of this collection. Hairs, glands and leaf shape provide comparative characters, while flowers are often needed for reliable identification. Many species were long known as Plectranthus. The generic placement used here follows the revision by Paton and colleagues (2019).

EIGENE AUFNAHMENPERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHS

The more narrowly circumscribed genus remains a separate part of the collection. Opposite leaves and bilabiate flowers link it with other members of the family, while its distinction from Coleus rests on floral characters together with phylogenetic evidence.
TAXONOMY
The formerly broad genus Plectranthus proved not to be a natural lineage in molecular studies. The 2019 revision by Paton and colleagues returned many species to Coleus, while also recognizing Equilabium and a more narrowly defined Plectranthus.
The genera differ not only in ancestry. Important characters include the attachment of the pedicel, the orientation of the calyx mouth, and the form and proportions of the corolla tube and lips. Species profiles will make these characters visible through detailed photographs.
Pedicel attached asymmetrically to the calyx; upper corolla lip usually much shorter than the lower lip.
Calyx mouth approximately straight; corolla tube usually sigmoid and widening towards the throat.
Calyx mouth oblique; corolla tube often gibbous or shortly spurred.
