02 / ERKENNUNGCHARACTERS
Wuchs und MerkmaleHabit and characters
A mat-forming aromatic succulent perennial herb to about 20 cm tall. Procumbent stems root at the nodes and arise from a small fibrous root system. The ascending ovate to broadly elliptic leaves are only 7–14 × 3.5–10(–15) mm and bear red sessile glands. The pale mauve corolla is only 2–3 mm long. Red glands and the very small flowers are especially important in the key.

Reading the habitat
- Mikrohabitat & GeologieMicrohabitat & geology
Flora of Tropical East Africa records the species from Acacia scrub, often on rocks or sand and only rarely on black cotton soil. Elevations range from 60 to 1,800 m; its range includes Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania as well as Ethiopia and Eritrea.
- Klima / StandorttypClimate / habitat type
- saisonal trockenes Akaziengebüsch, 60–1.800 mseasonally dry Acacia scrub, 60–1,800 m
- Klima am dokumentierten FundortClimate at the documented locality
No sufficiently precise locality is documented for this accession. No accession-specific temperature or precipitation values are therefore given; the general climatic setting of the natural range remains the basis.
- Cultivation inference
Rock, sand and the low succulent habit indicate warm, very bright conditions and a mineral substrate that dries rapidly. Water thoroughly during growth without keeping it continuously moist; creeping stems may be allowed to root where suitable.
