02 / ERKENNUNGCHARACTERS
Wuchs und Merkmale Habit and characters
A perennial, often semi-succulent herb. Stems of the typical form are procumbent and reach about 1 m, while other forms are decumbent to erect. The slightly succulent, ovate to nearly rounded leaves usually measure 15–30 × 10–25 mm and bear reddish to brown gland dots beneath. The 5–18 mm corolla is white, mauve or purple.
03 / LEBENSRAUM UND KULTURHABITAT AND CULTIVATION
Reading the habitat
- Mikrohabitat & Geologie Microhabitat & geology
Habitat breadth varies with the variety. The typical variety grows in dry woodland and bush, usually among rocks or on sandy soil; other forms included by Codd are also recorded from moist shady forest beside streams or from rocky, fire-influenced grassland.
- Klima / Biom Climate / biome
- saisonal geprägter Standort seasonally structured habitat
- Klima am dokumentierten FundortClimate at the documented locality
No sufficiently precise locality is documented for this accession. No accession-specific temperature or precipitation values are therefore given; the general climatic setting of the natural range remains the basis.
- Cultivation inference
Because of the broad ecological range, cultivation should be matched to a confirmed origin or variety. For the typical variety, bright light to light semi-shade, an airy well-drained substrate, and moderate watering during active growth are a cautious starting point.
