Southern African leaf succulents, complemented by Tulista and Gonialoe.
Gasteria
Thick leaves, often arranged in two ranks, may form a rosette in older plants. Leaf markings and surface texture vary considerably. The inflated flowers give the genus its name. Many species grow among rocks or in sheltered vegetation; the degree of shade depends on the habitat.

Haworthiopsis
Rosettes or elongated, densely leafy stems, firm leaves and often conspicuous tubercles characterise many species. Leaf arrangement, tubercles and offset formation aid comparison. Provenance and microhabitat remain important when interpreting individual forms.

Tulista
Robust rosettes with firm, often tuberculate leaves provide a distinct comparison with Haworthiopsis. The collection records the species under their current generic placement.
