02 / ERKENNUNGCHARACTERS
Wuchs und MerkmaleHabit and characters
Kew records the species as a semisucculent subshrub. In Pelargonium, habit, leaf division, stipules, inflorescence and the proportions of calyx, petals and fertile stamens are diagnostic; full species delimitation follows the southern African monograph.

Reading the habitat
- Mikrohabitat & GeologieMicrohabitat & geology
In southern Africa the genus extends from winter-wet Cape landscapes to summer-rainfall interiors. Many succulent and geophytic species occupy stony or sandy, seasonally dry habitats, so the stated range is crucial for interpreting growth rhythm.

- Klima am dokumentierten FundortClimate at the documented locality
- JAA1138 Matjiesfontein: Cape interior: semi-arid steppe climate with hot dry summers and cool winters; winter rainfall in the west and an increasing summer component eastward, regionally about 150–500 mm/year and 14–21 °C.
Die Werte sind regionale Orientierungsbereiche, keine Messungen am Sammelpunkt. Grundlage sind WorldClim 2.1 (1970–2000) und die Köppen-Geiger-Karte (1980–2016); Mikrohabitate können deutlich abweichen.Values are regional orientation ranges, not measurements at the collection point. They are based on WorldClim 2.1 (1970–2000) and the Köppen-Geiger map (1980–2016); microsites may differ substantially.
- Cultivation inference
Many southern African species respond strongly to seasonal rainfall and dormancy. A freely draining substrate, strong light and watering mainly during active growth are cautious starting points; the exact rhythm must be checked for the species and its floristic region.

Medicinal, aromatic and technical uses are recorded for various Pelargonium species in southern Africa. The sources used here, however, do not document an unambiguous species-specific use for this taxon; uses of other species are not transferred.
